Interests:reading and writing, but not arithmetic (i kno corny..so shoot me) i'm an internet junkie and i also like anime...all in all, i'm a geek Expertise:anything physics :) also have somewhat of a knowledge of religions Occupation:of palestine is wrong!
I think I'm done with my xanga. I've always seemed to delay
posting and take extra long breaks between doing so, and it's really
just because I can't be bothered. And really, what's the point of
having a journal (even if it is online) if you don't even feel like
writing in it?
I'm gonna leave the xanga up of course... I don't wanna lose any of the
stuff I actually sat down and put the effort into writing, and I'll try
to comment on other ppl's stuff whenever I have the chance. Just
don't expect any updates from me anymore (not that you were, anyway)
<---there a lot of 'any's in this sentence...
So what that means really is that you ppl need to start emailing or
IMing (or even, dare i say it, calling) me to find out what's going in
my life... HA!
For
its first event, Independent Viewpoints (IV) is bringing American
Muslims and concerned citizens together for a panel discussion on the
volatile political situation in Iraq. The day-long event,
entitled "A Dialogue on Shias, Sunnis, and Politics in Iraq", will take
place on Saturday, June 3rd, 2006 at the New York Society for Ethical
Culture in midtown Manhattan. In light of
increasing violence in the Muslim world since the American-led invasion
of Iraq, "A Dialogue on Shias, Sunnis, and Politics in Iraq" is more
timely than ever. Never has an initiative sought to galvanize
American Muslims in the political arena at this level, which is one
IV's goals. And there is nothing more appropriate than a hotbed
issue like Iraq to catalyze this political progress. This is the
first chance for American Muslims and concerned citizens to be heard
irrespective of political affliations or opinions, so the significance
of this historic event cannot be overstated. The keynote
for this first IV event is one of the most influential intellectuals in
the world, Dr. Noam Chomsky. This will be his first public talk
after returning from the Middle East. The dialogue will open with
our Shia-Sunni Speakers Panel, a collection of some of the most
politically savvy Muslims from the US and UK, which will be moderated
by the award-winning independent journalist Amy Goodman of Democracy
Now! Because sectarian division is at the heart of the tension in
Iraq, the Panel will consist of equal representation from the Sunni and
Shia sects of Islam. Also represented on our panel are diverse
points of view regarding the war in Iraq. Following the
dialogue, the audience may participate in concurrent small group
discussions to discuss the issues that were presented. Seating
for these small group sessions is limited, so please purchase tickets
now and request a seat. You can purchase tickets and get information
about hotel accomodations by visiting our website, www.independentviewpoints.org.
Please buy tickets ASAP! Prices will be higher at the door, so reserve your ticket online by visiting the website above.
The kids (and my sister) left less than 6 hours ago and I already miss them. All around the house are little mementos of their visit here. The toys she couldn't fit in the suitcase, a couple dirty diapers wrapped in plastic bags, and the empty crib in my room. The crib didn't look quite that empty before the baby slept in it. It's so bare now, not just the crib, but the living room and the van too. Where's the mess? Where are the baby carseats?
Just being able to drink something other than water without having to make sure the 2 yr old isn't watching, and being able to take out the cookies and chocolate from their hiding places makes my heart hurt a little. When I flipped the light switch on in my room, the halogen was still dimmed, because last night my sister had to pack while the babies were sleeping.
...was the last time i updated the xanga... or wait, i think it's actually 4 score and 4 days ago...
anyway... a brief recap of those 84 days...
2 months of religious observance
- heard a lot of good speeches
- caught up with a lot of old friends
Weekend trip to DC
- quality time with my best friend
- advertising Independent Viewpoints
- witnessed my first knife fight on the metro
Big sister and sons (plural!) here to visit for a month - quit my job (again) to spend time with them - almost died from the cuteness of the new babe
- learned just how terrible the Terrible Twos actually are
- realized why people get married (and why i probably should stop avoiding the issue)
i don't wanna list my resolutions because i'm one of those people that
make new ones every week...i'm not jus limited to jan 1st...
in other news..my bulk folder is steadily growing... i've hit 10,500
messages... the next number that matters is 50,000...but that prob
won't happen for another few years (and would be insane even then)
been thinking about family ties a lot... i've realized that i have
major middle child syndrome and am an attention whore of the highest
degree... i'm pretty good at provoking my litle sister but my bro never
takes the bait... i think i resent him for that...
also, i've come to terms with the fact that even though i love my mom
like crazy, we just don't have a lot in common, and it's because of
that that any activities we do together bore the hell outta me... she's
an awesome person to have late night convos with but i hate shopping, i
hate visiting her friends and she hates movies and gets bored at barnes
and noble.. it's just not meant to be... i still kinda felt sad when
she went to queens without me tho... when i asked her why she didn't
ask me to come with her she said, "i have to learn how to do things
without you" ..that gave me a pang too.. she's the person i love most
in the whole world.. i like to feel needed by her...
funny i always thought it was the other way around in parent-child relationships... trust me to flip things, eh?
